Marshall Softball Heads to Tennessee for Chattanooga Challenge

Herd plays five games in three days in second weekend of competition
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall softball team returns to action at the 2023 Chattanooga Challenge.Â
The Herd will play five games over the course of three days, opening with Maine before playing two against Indiana State and the hosts, Chattanooga.
There will not be live video at the Chattanooga Challenge. There will be live statistics, which will be updated and can be viewed HERE.

PREGAME NOTES
- Marshall opened the 2023 season with three wins in four games in Leesburg, Fla. a week ago.Â
- Senior pitcher Sydney Nester won all three starts, striking out 26, posting an ERA of 1.67.
- The Herd rallied to win in all three games over the weekend. Junior Autumn Owen and sophomore Rielly Lucas each slugged two home runs and drove in five runs.
ABOUT THE MAINE BEARS
- Maine finished the opening weekend 1-3 in the Upstate Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.Â
- The Bears feature infielder Kelby Drews, who is the reigning America East Player of the Week. Drews was perfect in the field at shortstop, going 6-13 at the plate.
- Maine is led by Jordan Fitzpatrick who is starting her second season in charge of her alma mater.
ABOUT THE CHATTANOOGA MOCS
- The UTC Mocs only played one game in the opening weekend, defeating JMU 4-3.Â
- Chattanooga was picked to finish third in the SoCon, while landing five on the preseason poll.
- The Mocs are coached by Frank Reed, who is in his 22nd season leading the team. Reed has an overall record of 692-494.
After Friday's games, Marshall will face Indiana State at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, before facing the Mocs again at 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
