Herd Baseball Readies for Mid-Week Contest at Cincinnati

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (9-8) head to Cincinnati on Tuesday for a contest against the Cincinnati Bearcats (8-12) at 5 p.m.

Luke Edwards collected the 200th hit of his career against Ohio State on Wednesday and became the all-time program leader in doubles against App State on Saturday. The fifth-year senior has a team-high 25 hits, .352 batting average, 19 runs scored and seven doubles.

Owen Ayers leads the Herd with three homers this season while sitting in a tie with Kyle Schaefer at 14 RBI.

After striking out a career-high 11 batters on Friday against the Mountaineers, Patrick Copen leads the Sun Belt with 38 this season.

Reliever Drew Harlow has .80 WHIP, best in the SBC and 14th in the country.

The Bearcats are 1-4 in their last five games, dropping their last four, after playing in those contests in South Carolina last week. It dropped a pair to Princeton, one to USC Upstate and split a pair of games with Winthrop.

Ryan Nicholson leads UC with a .343 batting average, 23 hits, seven doubles and four homers. He's tied with Kerrington Cross for the team lead in runs with 11.

Cross leads the Bearcats with 11 RBI.
