Herd Baseball Heads North to Take on In-State Rival No. 24 WVU

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (11-10, 2-4 Sun Belt) heads north up I-79 to Morgantown to take on in-state rival No. 24 West Virginia Mountaineers (18-6) Tuesday evening.

Luke Edwards leads Marshall with .322 batting average, 28 hits, 23 runs scored and seven doubles.

Owen Ayers has a team-best 20 RBI and four homers during the season.

Tuesday's scheduled starter Chad Heiner is 1-0 this season in nine appearances, including one start. He has a 3.92 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 13.2 innings on the mound this season.

The Mountaineers are coming off a 3-2 week that also saw them take a three-game series from Xavier last weekend.

J.T. Wetherholt leads the nation with 45 hits and is sixth with a .455 batting average. His 16 doubles rank 11th in NCAA Division I baseball and his 22 stolen bases sit in second.

Aiden Major is scheduled to start on the mound. It'll be his fourth start of the season, fifth appearance, he is 1-2 with a 6.43 ERA.
