MU falls Friday night

Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Daniel Carinci recorded a career-high four hits on Friday night as the Marshall University baseball team (13-15, 4-7 Sun Belt) dropped game two to the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (22-9, 8-3 Sun Belt), 5-2, in Charleston, West Virginia at GoMart Ballpark.

"We are in a three-game losing streak, but I think we're getting better. We're getting closer," Herd baseball head coach Greg Beals said about his team's effort against the Ragin' Cajuns. "It comes down to the little things. This is a very good conference we're playing in. These are good teams. The talent gap is a very small gap. The line between winning and losing is a very fine line."

Carinci's four-hit night came on singles in the second, fourth and sixth with a double to left in the eighth.

The Herd scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the second as Gio Ferraro led the frame off with a single and was brought home on Christian Lucio base knock up the middle three batters later.

Marshall's other run came on a two-out single by Kyle Schaefer that plated Cam Harthan in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Raymond Pacella gave up five runs, four earned, in 7.0 innings of work, giving up seven hits and two walks to go with four strikeouts.

Nicholas Weyrich, Bryce Blevins and Eddie Leon combined to throw a pair of scoreless innings in relief, giving up just one hit. Weyrich struck out a pair of Louisiana batters.

Luke Edwards recorded his third triple of the season to lead off the bottom of the third.
