Herd Baseball Travels to No. 8 Coastal Carolina

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University baseball team (16-34, 5-22 Sun Belt) is set to close out the season at eighth-ranked Coastal Carolina (34-17, 20-7 Sun Belt) with a three-game series beginning Thursday.

Owen Ayers ranks second in the Sun Belt, 22nd nationally, with 20 doubles this season. He sits two from tying and three from breaking Eric Pinkerton's single-season program record of 22 set in 2000. Ayers also leads Marshall with seven homers.

Kyle Schaefer leads The Herd with 34 RBI this season.

With 65 hits and 17 stolen bases, Luke Edwards leads MU in both categories. The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, native ranks third all-time in program history with 247 hits and is tied for third in RBI with 137.

Daniel Carinci's .300 batting average leads the squad as the native of Ajax, Ontario, Canada, has 15 multi-hit games this season, including five contests with three or more.

Thursday's projected starter Patrick Copen sits in fourth in the conference at 79 strikeouts as Friday's starting pitcher Raymond Pacella sits in 10th at 72.

Pacella is scheduled to make his 17th start of the season, tying the Marshall single-season starts made by a pitcher.

Saturday's probable starting pitcher Zac Addkison is third in the SBC at 7.19 hits allowed per nine innings.

Scouting Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers swept South Alabama in their weekend series last week and are coming off a midweek victory over North Carolina.

Payton Eeles is second in the Sun Belt with 73 hits while ranking third with a .371 batting average.

Derek Bender has a conference-best 74 RBI with 17 homers this season.
