Marshall Softball Travels to Georgia For Final Regular Season Series

Three-game series opens from Statesboro Thursday evening
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With a spot in the league's top-two within reach, the Marshall softball team (40-9, 14-5 SBC) visits the Georgia Southern Eagles (17-31, 6-15 SBC) to close the regular season.Â

SUN BELT CHAMPIONSHIP
- With the final week of the regular season underway, the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Softball Championship is set for next week, May 10-13 at Lamson Park in Lafayette, La.
- As an important note, the top two seeds are determined by the winners of the eastern and western divisions of the conference. Currently, Marshall has a 3.5 game lead over JMU for the top place in the east.Â

PREGAME NOTES
- Alex Coleman had eight hits over the weekend, with her first career triple. The sophomore leads the conference with 73 hits this year, which ranks fifth in the nation.
- Redshirt-senior Sydney Nester leads the SBC in earned run average (1.12). Nester picked up her third save of the year Saturday to seal Savannah Rice's 11th victory of the season.Â
- Marshall softball's program record entering the week is 899-694-3.

ABOUT THE EAGLES
- Georgia Southern is led by a pair of .300 hitters with Emma Davis and Faith Barth. Davis is a .369 hitter with nine steals.
- The Eagles have a trio of starters that manager Sharon Perkins relies on. Bailey Holland statistically leads the team with a 4.15 ERA, and 113 IP.
- The final weekend of the regular season will be crucial for GS, who sits in a tie for ninth with in-state foe Georgia State.
