HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall Cross Country teams host the 2023 Thundering Herd Invitational on Friday, Sept. 15 at the Kennedy Center YMCA Complex.
For the Herd, it will be the first time since 1989 the team will host a home cross country meet. The meet takes place at the Marshall University Cross Country Course at the Kennedy Center with the Men's 8K at 5:30 p.m. and the Women's 5K to follow at 6:15 p.m.
"With it being the first home meet since 1989, it feels truly special," Head Coach Caleb Bowen said. "It's always great to be able to race on a home course you are familiar with, but more importantly a place where friends and family can come and support our team. We have tons of support on road meets but there will be so many more at home and we will be running for the supporters of the Marshall Cross Country program."

"For the men, this is the first opportunity to run the 8K distance so I am really excited to see how they respond to running our true race distance." Bowen said. "This is what we train for so I expect a stronger performance than the 6K. I am excited to see a big group of younger runners also competing for the 4-8 spots."
"On the women's side, I am really excited to see the top-four group push each other towards the front. Like the guys, we have a big group fighting for the 5-10 spots so we will see who brings it on race day!"
