HUNTINGTON, W.Va – An early second half red card proved costly for Marshall in the Herd's (5-2-1, 0-1 SBC) 3-1 loss at home to ULM (6-1-2, 1-0 SBC) Sunday.
The Herd's Regina Fiabema was sent off for a close challenge just outside the box in a 1-1 contest in the 48th minute, giving the Warhawks an opening to score in the 56th and 62nd.
"The first half I thought was blow for blow, both teams trying to figure each other out," Head Coach Michael Swan said. "Unfortunately the second half decision there kind of changed the game for everyone."
"There was a point in that game where an undisciplined team could let it get out of hand but we did pull it back together and I am proud of the group for doing that."
Marshall's Abi Hugh scored a stunning goal in the 21st minute to give MU the early lead. It was the Huntington native's second goal of the season down the left side.
Hugh was one of six seniors honored before the match. Regina Fiabema, Olivia Gandee, Campbell George, Regan Meyer, and Hannah Telleysh were also recognized in a ceremony before Sunday's contest.
ULM equalized off a corner in the 35th, before scoring twice more in the second half following the red card.
