Herd Track and Field Opens Strong at Indiana Invitational

Marshall sets Women’s DMR Relay School Record
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Part of the Marshall track and field teams opened competition Friday at the Indiana Invitational.Â
The highlight came from the women's distance medley relay team of Abby Herring, Kylee Mastin, Sophia Newsome, and Marlee Porter setting a new school record of 11:45.59. Despite the quartet racing solo, the team shaved five seconds off the previous record set at last season's SBC Indoor Championships (11:50.82).
Additionally, four Herd athletes placed and three more sprinters qualified for Saturday's finals in the 60 meter dash and the 60 meter hurdles.Â
Saturday from IU will feature the finals in those sprinting events, as well as the 400, 800, and more throwing events including the shot put. Saturday will also include the Herd's traveling party at the VMI Team Challenge in Lexington, Va.Â
