PRE-GAME NOTES
Marshall and Southern Miss are playing each other for the 15th time, but the first time since the 2018 season – a 26-24 win for the Golden Eagles in Hattiesburg. That was the last year in a stretch of 14 consecutive years in which the teams played each other.
Marshall comes into the contest looking to become bowl eligible for the eighth straight year, which would be the second-longest bowl streak among Group of Five programs (Memphis, 10). The current seven-year streak includes all four seasons under head coach Charles Huff.
Marshall defensive end Mike Green was named as the Reese's Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week after amassing 9 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble in last week's win over ULM. He also was named to the PFF Group of Five Team of the Week and as the SBC Defensive Player of the Week. Currently, Green is No. 2 in FBS in TFLs (14.5), No. 3 in FBS in Sacks (10.0) and No. 1 in FBS among defensive linemen in tackles (55).
Southern Miss comes into the contest looking for its first SBC win of the season, having lost all four conference games to this point.
ABOUT MARSHALL
Marshall comes into the contest at 5-3 overall and 3-1 on the season. Head coach Charles Huff is in his fourth season leading the Thundering Herd.
Offensively, the Thundering Herd is 15th in the nation in rushing yards per game, averaging 212.9 yards per game.
Last week, Jordan Houston led the Herd with 80 yards on the ground and had 171 all-purpose yards, which earned him a spot on the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll.
On the defensive side, the Herd is led by defensive end Mike Green, who is one of the nation's premier defensive players, ranking No. 2 in FBS in TFLs (14.5) and No. 3 in FBS in Sacks (10.0). Green is also No. 1 among defensive linemen in FBS in tackles (55).
Marshall linebacker Jaden Yates is No. 2 in the Sun Belt in tackles with 75 tackles on the season while defensive back J.J. Roberts has 60 tackles and leads the SBC in passes defended with 1.13 per game.

ABOUT SOUTHERN MISS
Southern Miss comes into Saturday's game at 1-7 overall and 0-4 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Golden Eagles are led by interim head coach Reed Stringer.
Stringer took over in the interim head coach role on Oct. 20 when the team decided to part ways with head coach Will Hall.
Many of the players on Southern Miss' roster are home-grown talents with 70 of the 110 players on the roster coming from Mississippi.
Ethan Crawford has taken over at quarterback for the Golden Eagles and has thrown for 772 yards this season. His top receiving threat is Larry Simmons (18 catches, 307 yards).
Defensively, Southern Miss is led by Tre Pinkney, who has 53 tackles on the season. Dylan Lawrence also has 36 tackles and two interceptions for the team.

SERIES HISTORY
Marshall and Southern Miss are meeting for the first time since 2018, but this will be the 15th all-time meeting after the teams played for 14 consecutive years during their days in Conference USA. Southern Miss leads the all-time series, 8-6, and has won the last three meetings.
