Herd Track and Field Breaks Two More School Records at Bellarmine Classic

Marshall has set seven new school records this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky.- The Marshall Track and Field teams had another memorable day at the PNC Bellarmine Classic Friday.
With two individual victories and 18 scoring results, Director of Track and Field Keith Roberts is pleased with the performance heading into the homestretch of the indoor season.
"Today was a great day overall," Coach Roberts said. "We had a lot of season-best performances as well as numerous personal bests. Ronnie Saunders and Kylee Mastin led the day with their school record-breaking performances. They were locked in the entire trip and it was evident when they stepped on the track. We have a lot to build upon moving into our final home meet next weekend. It will be our senior night and we hope to see the great fans of Marshall out wearing green to support our seniors and our entire team!"
It was the second week in a row Mastin broke a school record. The junior beat her own personal 800 record, trimming the time from 2:11.67 set last year, to 2:11.31 to win the event Friday.
Senior Ronnie Saunders broke an Indoor 3K record set in 1987 by Todd Crosson. Saunders finished 5th with a time of 8:16.70 to set the new mark.
The Herd has now broken seven records in the 2023-24 indoor season.
The Herd's other victory was Tyra Thomas winning the 60 Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.61. Thomas has finished on top in the event in all five meets she has competed in this season.

The Herd returns home for its final home meet of the season next Friday and Saturday. The Marshall Invitational will be held from the Chris Cline Athletic Complex starting on Friday, Feb. 9.
