Herd Softball Rolls into SBC Play with 9-2 Win Over Ohio

Marshall earns first win against OU in Athens in over a decade
ATHENS, Ohio — A complete-team performance lifted Marshall to its 14th win of the season in a 9-2 road victory over the Ohio Bobcats.
The Herd's Brooklyn Ulrich capped the offensive outburst with a 7th inning grand slam to left center, scoring Rielly Lucas, Lydia Montague, and Bella Gerlach. Ulrich had five runs batted in Tuesday, a new career-high.
Her grand slam was MU's first since the 2022 season when Katie Adams unloaded the bases against Fordham.
Coach Morgan Zerkle's team scored early and often off the OU ace, jumping for three in the top of the 1st. It was Gerlach and Ulrich who each tallied a run-producing hit to open the game.
The offense combined with Bub Feringa's five-plus innings of scoreless pitching to lift the Herd to its first win in Athens since 2013.
Feringa continued to excel both in the circle and at the plate. In addition to her 11 groundouts forced while scattering five hits, the Glendale native led the team with three knocks, producing an RBI in the 3rd to score Sydney Bickel.
Bickel had two hits as well in the win, her 9th multi-hit game of the year.
UP NEXT
The Herd begins Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at Dot Hicks Field. Marshall hosts Georgia Southern with a three-game set starting Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
