Rebecca Merritt sets second-best all-time mark in Women’s Hammer Throw
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Going into the second week of outdoor competition for Marshall, Director of Track Keith Roberts saw progress being made.
"Last week we had some breakout performances which has given us some good momentum going into the outdoor season," Director of Track and Field Keith Roberts said. "We take relays serious and for us to come out with two wins against great competition speaks volumes about our team and coaches. Dezire Gee had a breakout race in the 200 and put her name in the record books. Our team showed we had firepower with great performances in every event area. We have some stellar competition all outdoor and the FSU Relays will provide us with great competition to prepare for conference."
That progress started at the field events Thursday at the Mike Long Track Complex, with senior Rebecca Merritt throwing the second-best hammer throw mark in school history. Her 58.14 meter throw finished second in the event.
Other field athletes including Lara Check were busy on day one. Check set a PR in the High Jump with a leap of 1.64 meters.
Day two from FSU starts at 8 a.m. Friday.
