Second Round action at Caledonia gets underway Tuesday morning
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall's Kylie Bowes leads the Thundering Herd after the first round of the Golfweek Intercollegiate at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, South Carolina.
Bowes had a pair of birdies in her first four holes of the day, which helped her lead the Herd with a 5-over 77.
On a beautiful day to open April, players struggled to find their mark as difficult pin placements and wind gusts contributed to only four players finishing below par on the day.
Bowes started the morning strong, netting a birdie on No. 2 – a 513-yard par-5 – and followed two holes later with another birdie on a lengthy par-4 to get going early on.
However, as the round grew on, the winds picked up and several players started to struggle with big numbers around tucked pin spots.
Bowes was able to manage the difficulties, avoiding a big number on the back nine while batting to the 77 to pace the team.
Kasey McIlvaine led Marshall with three birdies on the day, including consecutive birdies at Nos. 9 and 10.
Marshall returns to action at 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday to get the second round started.
