Herd enters weekend in 6th place in Sun Belt Conference standings
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall softball travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia for its second leg of back-to-back road series in Sun Belt Conference play. Â

PREGAME NOTES
- The Herd's Bella Gerlach was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday. She leads the league with 13 home runs.Â
- As a team, Marshall is leading the SBC with a .320 batting average. The Herd exploded for 35 runs in a three-game series sweep at Georgia State last weekend. In the series opener, MU hit six home runs, a new single-game program record. Â
- Marshall pitched consecutive shutouts for the first time this season in the first two games of the GSU series. Junior Bub Feringa leads the Herd with nine wins and a 3.06 ERA.Â
ABOUT THE DUKES
- JMU is 21-16, and 5-7 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Dukes have started SBC against some of the conference powers, dropping series to Texas State, Troy, and Louisiana while sweeping Georgia State.Â
- A trio of batters are hitting above .350 for JMU, including outfielder Butler Reed, who is sporting a .388 average. Â
- The Herd and Dukes have only met once prior in Harrisonburg. JMU won that game 8-5 in 2019. Marshall does lead the all-time series, 5-2, taking the three-game series when the teams met last year in Huntington for the first time as conference foes.Â
