Herd Unable to Make Early Lead Stand Saturday at JMU

Series finale set for noon on Sunday
HARRISONBURG, Va. — Marshall softball is 20-20 after dropping its contest Saturday at JMU (23-16) by a 7-5 score.
The Herd scored five in the top of the 1st before being held scoreless for the remainder of the contest.
Four hits, all singles, greeted the Dukes' starter to open the game. Brooklyn Ulrich, Reagan Glanz, Bub Feringa and Destiny Washington all produced RBI's in the five-run burst.
From there, errors and sun haunted the Herd. JMU scored a run in the 2nd on three errors, and three runs with two outs following a sun-aided double on a routine fly ball in the 3rd.
The hosts scored cleanly in the 4th, 5th, and 6th to gain the lead while the MU bats fell silent.
Coach Zerkle's Herd did fight back with runners on in the 6th and 7th, but James Madison made sound defensive plays at short to end the 6th, and in right field to end the game.
