Marshall Softball Returns Home For Series Against Coastal

Herd welcomes the Chanticleers for the first time to Huntington

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Marshall University softball (20-21, 6-9 SBC) hosts Coastal Carolina (27-18, 7-8 SBC) for a three-game series at Dot Hicks Field over the weekend. 

Friday's opener in Huntington is at 6 p.m. for what will be the team's first game at home in 20 days.

The entire series will be Alumni Weekend at Dot Hicks Field, highlighted by Emileigh Cooper Day Saturday, with the Warrior Award being presented to a current MUSB player to be announced prior to the 2 p.m. game in honor of the late Marshall alumni. PREGAME NOTES

  • Marshall returns home after consecutive weeks on the road at Georgia State and JMU. The highlight came when MU hit a program-record six home runs in a 15-0 win in Atlanta. 
  • Redshirt-sophomore Brooklyn Ulrich leads the team with 51 hits and a .389 batting average. Following closely behind in the hit category with 49 hits each is senior Sydney Bickel (.368) and sophomore Bella Gerlach (.366).
  • Junior Bub Feringa continues to be a dual-threat for Marshall. Feringa is leading the team in pitching with a 3.33 ERA with a .349 batting average. 
  • Friday will be the 14th meeting all-time between Marshall and Coastal, but the first in Huntington. Coastal has the slight-edge, 7-6. 
ABOUT THE CHANTICLEERS
  • Coastal is 27-18 this season, placed directly in front of the Herd with a 7-8 record in the SBC standings with three weeks to play. 
  • The team's top hitter is sophomore transfer from Australia, Georgia Hood. The .387 hitter is one of six Chanticleer hitters with five or more home runs. 
  • Fifth-year pitcher Raelee Brabham is one of two pitchers with a sub-three ERA. Her and reigning SBC Pitcher of the Week Nicolette Picone often combine in games as Picone leads the conference with six saves.
