PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall's Men's Golf team made a huge jump in the second round of the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate on Tuesday morning.
Tyler Jones and Ryan Bilby each finished with 3-under 69s to pace the team. Jones' is currently tied for 10th in the tournament at 3-under par.
"Tyler and Ryan had great rounds today," Marshall Men's Golf head coach Matt Grobe said. "We played a lot better today and bounced back well from yesterday."
Just as the team couldn't get putts to fall on day one, Tuesday's second round was the opposite as the Herd found its stroke in ascending eight spots up the leaderboard to move into contention in a tie for seventh place. No team made a higher jump in the standings on Tuesday.
Jones finished his day with six birdies, including three in a five-hole stretch on the front nine – his second nine of the day.
Bilby also moved into the top-25 with his 3-under 69 that featured four birdies on his first nine.
Joseph Kalaskey also continued his string of consistency, finishing with 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey for an Even-par 72 that has him at 1-over for the tournament.
Clayton Thomas also finished his round strong, carding an Eagle on the par-5 9th hole – his last hole of the day – to finish at 1-over for the day.
"Joseph played really consistent all day, finishing Even, and Clayton finished his round with a nice Eagle," Grobe said. "Today was a good day for us as a team. We are looking forward to the final round tomorrow."
Marshall's final round of action in the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate gets underway at 8:30 a.m.
