HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Baseball catcher Owen Ayers was selected in 19th round with the 572nd overall of the 2024 MLB Draft on Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs.

"I am very excited for Owen as he gets to chase his baseball dream at the next level." Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "Owen earned this opportunity; he has worked extremely hard on his game behind the plate as a catcher."

Ayers, a native of Sarasota, Florida, spent the last two seasons in Huntington registering 48 doubles, tied for the second most in program history, with 25 in 2024 and 23 in 2023, ranking first and second in a single season in program history.

The catcher becomes the third Marshall baseball player taken in the MLB Draft across the last two seasons joining Patrick Copen and Zac Addkison who were taken in the seventh and 15th rounds, respectively, in the 2023.
