HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team swept Saint Francis (PA) 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-10) in its final Fans First match before the regular season on Saturday.
Â
"Today was a good test for us before beginning non-conference play," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "We executed on a lot of items they've been working hard on all preseason, any time you can play someone else it allows us to dissect more in depth. Super proud of our program and beyond thankful for all those that came out and supported!"
Â
Brynn Brown registered 20 assists with Sarah Wadsworth recording 10 digs, both match highs. Audrey Geer finished tied for the match high in kills with eight as Beatrice Ciccarelli had six service aces.
Â
Down 16-14 late in the first set, The Herd used a 7-1 run to get back on top 21-17. MU used three Red Flash errors and a kill by Brown to close out the first frame 25-20.
Â
Marshall faced its largest deficit of the match at 8-4 in the second set. However, after a Saint Francis error, Ciccarelli rattled off four straight service aces to take a 9-8 advantage. After another two SFU errors, a fifth service ace from Ciccarelli closed out a 7-0 run with The Herd leading 12-8. MU then closed out the set on an 8-0 run, including three blocks assists by Brown and Ciccarelli, winning 25-16.
Â
Marshall got on top early and rolled past the Red Flash to take the match in a sweep with a 25-10 victory in the third set. Wadsworth and Geer each accounted for four kills in the final set.
