Kochan Currently In Top-10 At Cardinal Cup

Herd junior shoots Even par in 1st round of year; currently tied for 7th
SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Marshall junior Olivia Kochan currently sits in the top-10 after day one of the 2024 Cardinal Cup, hosted by the University of Louisville at UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville, Kentucky.
Marshall's team started the day on the back-9, which played much more difficult across the board for all teams on Friday.
Kochan, who is currently tied for 7th, was 3-over through her first four holes on Friday, but righted the ship after that, starting with a birdie at the par-3 16th hole to get things going.
From there, Kochan went 2-under on her last nine holes of the day, securing birdies on Nos. 4 and 6 to get back to Even and gain some momentum heading into Day Two.
Over her final 14 holes, Kochan played the course 3-under par.
Emily McLatchey also ended her day with some momentum, notching her lone birdie of the day on the par-5 No. 9, which left her 4-over for the day and tied for 29th place.
The par-5 ninth hole was friendly to the Herd on Friday with three of five competing players birdieing the hole to end the day on a high note.
Abbey Bull and Savannah Hawkins each shot 6-over 78s on Friday while Madison Borders had an 84, but birdied the last hole to right things going into Saturday's second round.
As a team, Marshall is currently in 9th place, but sits just six shots off 5th place and 13 strokes off the lead, which is currently held by Rutgers.
Friday's opening round was delayed by weather as remnants of Hurricane Francine moved through the Louisville area.
The teams are scheduled to return to action at 9 a.m. on Saturday for the second round of the tournament, weather permitting.
