GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (8-4) picked up a pair of victories on Friday to open the Greensboro Invitational with a 3-1 win over Georgetown (25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 28-26) and a 3-0 sweep of Tennessee Tech (25-16, 25-19, 25-18) to hand the Golden Eagles its first loss of the season.

Brynn Brown eclipsed the 2,000 assist mark for her career in the first match of the day against Georgetown.

"We keep challenging our team to add another brick to the foundation of this season, and they continue to respond," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Ari Aganus said. "We were super aggressive from the service line and blocking which allows for our offense to have equal opportunities. Audrey (Geer) really showed off what her capabilities are. Super proud of Peyton (Neal) for leading defensively for us and Brynn (Brown) for being steady and reliable. Each player did their part, and I couldn't be more excited and ready to close out our non-conference tomorrow."

Brown notched her eighth double-double of the season with 20 assists and 16 digs. Audrey Geer recorded a team-high 14 kills with Peyton Neal registering 17 digs. Izzy Collier and Olivia Fogo each had five blocks.

Peyton Neal finished with a match-high 21 digs as Izzy Collier and Audrey Geer had four blocks each, both recording a pair of solo efforts.

The first set was hotly contested between the two sides. The score was tied 14-14 through the first 28 points with the opening frame featuring six lead changes and the score tied nine times. Marshall used a pair Hoya errors and a service ace from Bella Thompson to take a 17-14 advantage. MU used a Marae Reilly kill and two Georgetown errors to take the set 25-19.

Marshall trailed 7-1 early in the second before taking a timeout. The Herd grinded back taking 10 of the next 13 points to grab an 11-10 advantage. The two sides traded points and leads across the next few points, but The Herd took the final two points in the set with a kill Geer and a Hoya error to win 25-20 and take a 2-0 lead.

After falling 25-19 in the third, the fourth was battle between the two sides. With the score tied 10-10, neither side garnered a lead of more than two points the rest of the way. Down the stretch, Marshall staved off match points at 25-24 and 26-25. The Herd took the final three points on a Georgetown service error, a kill by Geer and a service ace from Beatrice Ciccarelli to take the set 28-26 and seal the match.

Marshall 3, Tennessee Tech 0
Thompson led MU with 13 assists as Neal had 11 digs. Geer added eight kills with Ciccarelli rejecting five Golden Eagle attacks.

After the score was tied 2-2 early in the opening set, Marshall used an 11-1 advantage to take a 13-3 lead. The Herd cruised the rest of the set wit Geer closing out the set with a kill for the 25-16 win. MU hit a match-high .333 in the first set.

Marshall opened the second set on an 8-1 run before Tennessee Tech called a timeout. Much like the first, The Herd continued its momentum to not let the Golden Eagles take a lead by taking the second 25-19 without trailing in the frame.

The third set was closer than the first two of the match with the two sides knotted at 16-16.
