HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals announced his 2026 Signing Day Class with seven student-athletes set to join the Herd. Garreth Calder, Jonathan Drawbaugh, Aidan Gorman, Sam Koerner, Tyler Schumaker, Nic Stumpf and Tanner Stroup set to join Marshall.
Â
"This is a group of young men with high character that will be great additions to the Marshall Baseball Family," Beals said. "Speed and athleticism best describe this class. The direction of the program is moving strongly in an upward direction, and these talented student-athletes will continue to raise the bar."
Â
"Recruiting elite student-athletes requires the tireless work of our entire staff and department. I greatly appreciate the support and contributions made by Taylor Kennedy, our Academic Coach, and Bryan Booth, our Athletic Trainer. Our recruiting efforts are led by Tim Donnelly, our Associate Head Coach and recruiting coordinator, but it takes work from the whole team, Pitching Coach Aaron Blair, and Assistant Coach Blair Everhart."Â
Â
Garreth Calder                       Â
INF/OF – R/R     Â
5'10Â Â
Trinity HS – York, PA                            Â
HS Coach – Teed Wertz
Summer Team – FTB Phillies Scout Team
"Garreth can fly! His speed can impact the game, both on defense and on the base paths. A very good athlete who can play both in the infield and outfield. Garreth brings a lot to the table, and we are excited to have him in our program and look forward to his player development."
Â
Jonathan Drawbaugh            Â
RHP Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
5'11Â Â
Camp Hill HS – Camp Hill, PA          Â
HS Coach – Matt Spiegel
Summer Team – FTB Phillies Scout Team
"An athletic, clean mover on the mound. Jonathan has very good arm strength and the ability to spin a really good breaking ball. JD's competitiveness along with his stuff will have him ready to make an early impact on our pitching staff."
Â
Aidan Gorman                      Â
OF – L/L             Â
5'11Â Â
Troy HS - Troy, OHÂ
HS Coach – Ty Welker
Summer Team – Miami Valley Prospects  Â
"A two-sport athlete, Aidens high school football team is still alive in the Ohio playoffs – sweet 16 in their division. Aidan possesses very good foot speed and outstanding instincts in centerfield, making him an elite defender. A dynamic offensive player who
can impact the game with both his speed and power."
Â
Sam Koerner                         Â
C – L/R               Â
5'10Â Â
Pro 5 Baseball Academy - Durham, NCÂ Â Â Â Â Â
HS Coach – Sean Gallaher                                   Â
Summer Team – Charlotte Megastars
"Sammy is a ball player. A left-handed hitting catcher with great feel and presence behind home plate coupled with a strong and accurate throwing arm. Offensively, he has very good zone awareness with a little pop in that bat."
Â
Tyler Schumacher        Â
RHP/INF – R/R  Â
6'1Â Â Â Â
Campbell County HS - Alexandria, KYÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â
HS Coach – Scott Schweitzer
Summer Team – Dayton Classics / Midland Redskins
"A two-way player who will pitch and play in the infield. Tyler has a fast arm! He creates outstanding movement on his fastball and has the ability spin a tight breaking ball. We really like the way he competes, and look forward to bringing that into our program."
Â
Nic Stumpf                    Â
OF – R/R   Â
6'2Â Â Â Â
Kenton Ridge HS - Springfield, OHÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
HS Coach – Aaron Shaffer
Summer Team – Dayton Classics
"Nic can hit! He has the ability to move clean and very quickly throughout the full range of motion in his swing. This allows him to produce great bat speed and exit velocities. A corner outfielder who can really run. A speed/power combination that excites us about his player development."
Â
Tanner Stroup                       Â
LHP/OF – R/L     Â
6'3Â Â Â Â
Altoona Area HS – Altoona, PA                            Â
HS Coach – Tom Smith
Summer Team – Ohio Warhawks
"A two-way player, Tanner comes to us as a LHP and right-handed hitting outfielder. Tanner is a physical and quick-twitched athlete. That twitch allows him to create outstanding hand speed on the mound and bat speed at the plate. We envision Tanner making an immediate impact to our pitching staff."
