PRE-GAME NOTES
Marshall quarterback Carlos Del Rio-Wilson was named as a Manning Award "Stars of the Week" nominee for last week's performance against Georgia State. It is the second time this season that he has earned the accolade.
Marshall linebacker Jibreel Al-Amin set a career-high with 10 tackles while adding 1.5 tackles for loss, a half-sack and a forced fumble in last week's win.
Marshall kicker Lorcan Quinn currently has 18 field goals on the season, which puts him one field goal away from tying the Herd's single-season record.
Both Marshall head coach Tony Gibson and App State coach Dowell Loggains are in the first year at their programs.
The Thundering Herd is looking to become bowl eligible for the ninth consecutive year – one of the longest streaks among Group of Five programs in the country. A win would clinch bowl eligibility.
Marshall and Appalachian State's rivalry is one of the Herd's oldest and most intense. Dating back to 1977, the two programs were the pinnacle of the Southern Conference in the late 1980s and early 1990s before Marshall transitioned from Division I-AA to I-A in 1996.
Marshall is wearing a special '61 Forever' sticker on the back of its helmet in honor of former App State coach and Charleston native Shawn Clark, who passed away earlier this year.
