Senior’s strong outing leads team to 2nd Place Finish in South Carolina
MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – Marshall senior Emily McLatchey capped a strong week with a T-2 finish at the RiverTowne Invitational on Tuesday.
McLatchey shot a final round 73 and was only one of four players to finish at Even-par or better for the tournament in earning the runner-up finish.
Her effort led a strong team effort for the week as the Herd earned a 2nd place finish in the team competition at the RiverTowne Invitational, which wrapped up play on Tuesday in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
"I am so proud of this team and how hard everyone fought this week for every single shot," Marshall Women's Golf coach Brooke Burkhammer said. "Emily played well and, as a group, we played solid golf throughout the week."
McLatchey started her tournament with a pair of rounds at par or better on Monday's first day, which features 36 holes of action. After an opening Even-par 72, McLatchey shot a 1-under 71 in the second round to put herself in the thick of contention before following it up with a 1-over 73 as her consistent week continued on Tuesday.
Olivia Kochan joined McLatchey with a 1-over 73 on Tuesday while Abbey Bull carded a 74 and Savannah Hawkins shot a 75 to help the Herd move to the top in the team contention.
Hawkins finished the tournament at 6-over, which was good for a share of 10th place while Bull's second 74 of the tournament helped her to a T-20 finish as well.
Marshall Women's Golf now returns home for a week before heading to Arizona for the Mountain View Collegiate, hosted by Kansas State in Tucson, Ariz., from March 2-4.
