MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (12-13) fell 7-0 on Tuesday night in Morgantown to the West Virginia Mountaineers (20-3).
"We got behind early and again we assisted their offense with free bases," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "I thought we pitched the ball well out of the bullpen pen. Offensively, we were unable to get anything going, give their pitching credit. They are a very good team, and we need to play cleaner baseball and get a few big hits to beat them."
Jackson Halter and Nolan Wilson each reached base twice with a single and walk in the ballgame with Eddie Leon and Cam Harthan also reaching on base hits.
The Herd bullpen gave up just one run in 5.1 innings. Alex McKay threw 2.1 scoreless frames giving up two hits and a walk. Peyton Jackson threw a scoreless sixth with Kenyon Collins giving up just one hit in a scoreless eighth.
The Mountaineers tallied six of their seven runs in the first three innings with four in the third.
