Kalaskey Leads Herd On Day Two At Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge

Senior’s five birdies fuels 1-under 71 at True Blue on Tuesday
PAWLEY'S ISLAND, S.C. – Marshall senior Joseph Kalaskey recorded five birdies to notch a 1-under 71 to lead the Thundering Herd on Day Two at the Golfweek/Stifel Spring Challenge at True Blue Golf Course.
"Today was a good day for us," Grobe said. "I wanted to see how we reacted after having the lead following the first round. The guys really played some good golf and I saw some good things. We just didn't score as well as I thought we played."
Much like he did on Monday when he eagled his first hole, Kalaskey started the day strong with a birdie on No. 1 to set a strong tone for his day.
After a setback on Hole No. 4, Kalaskey got it together near the turn as he recorded three birdies during a six-hole stretch. He ended his day with his final birdie putt on No. 18 to get back into the red figures for the day.
Marshall senior J.F. Aber had the most consistent round of the afternoon, finishing with 16 pars to go with one birdie and one bogey to finish at Even-par for the day.
"Joseph battled hard today and finished with a 71," Grobe said. "J.F. played well and, when he starts to get the putts falling, he is going to be a force."
Clayton Thomas, who led the team on Day One, found his rhythm late in the round, grabbing birdies on Nos. 15 and 16 to end the day at 1-over, which still has him tied for 17th.
One of the day's highlights belonged to Cameron Jarvis, who found his tee shot on the par-3 No. 3 embedded in the side of a bunker and covered with sand. Jarvis cooked the fried egg to perfection, lifting the difficult shot out of the bunker and down a slope before it found the bottom of the cup to send a roar through the crowd at the congested third hole.
Marshall returns to action for the final round of the tournament on Wednesday morning from True Blue Golf Club.
"I am looking forward to watching the guys try to chase down the leaders tomorrow," Grobe said.
