Herd falls to Coastal Carolina in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The No. 4 Seed Marshall University Baseball team (33-26) saw its season come to an end in the semifinals of 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship presented by Troy University in Montgomery, Alabama, with a 6-1 loss to top-seeded and No. 11 ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (47-11) on Saturday.

"I'm really proud of what we accomplished, especially here down the stretch, and what we accomplished as a program," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said after the game. "

Senior Nolan Wilson registered two hits as senior Eddie Leon tallied an RBI.

Starting pitcher Bryce Blevins hurled 4.0 innings after coming off two-days rest allowing just three runs on six hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts. In relief, Fenix DiGiacomo threw 2.0 frames, Luke Proehl with a scoreless seventh and Nicholas Weyrich throwing the eighth.

The Herd tallied its run in the top of the first. Maika Niu started the inning with a one-out double as AJ Havrilla drew a walk and Niu advanced on a wild pitch to third. Leon then brought home Niu with a sacrifice bunt.

The Chanticleers tallied a pair of runs in the first, followed by one in each of the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

Coastal Carolina starter Jacob Morrison threw 7.0 frames allowing one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
