Herd Cruises to 6-0 Victory in Home Opener

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall University women's soccer (2-0) dominated Glenville State, 6-0 in its home opener Wednesday evening at Hoops Family Field.

The Herd erupted for six goals from six different players, outshooting the Pioneers 27-1 and holding their opponent without a shot on target or a single corner kick.
Geovanna Souza wasted no time sparking the attack, netting the opener in the 11th minute off a pinpoint cross from Fernanda Dantas. Souza later returned the favor, assisting on the third goal as she finished with one goal, one assist and two shots on target.
Dantas put her stamp on the match, tallying a goal with the opening assist and firing a team-high four shots, three on frame. Dantas assisted on the opener and then scored Marshall's fourth goal - a left-footed screamer - in the 77th minute.

Substitute Tiggi Gent came off the bench and delivered the final blow, scoring in the 90th minute with just eight seconds left in regulation for her second goal in as many games.
Emma Durand earned the clean sheet in goal, benefiting from a defensive unit that allowed just one shot and none on target, making for consecutive shutouts for the sophomore goalkeeper.
Other key contributors included Bailey Fisher, who converted a clinical penalty in the 33rd minute to double the lead, and Larissa Ozorio, who netted the third goal just before halftime off a well-worked sequence with assists from Marcella Alves and Souza.

Marshall travels to Athens, Ohio, on Aug. 24 to face regional rival Ohio in an early season test.
