Marshall Women’s Soccer Travels to Ohio Sunday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Following a pair of victories to start the 2025 season, Marshall women's soccer travels to Athens to take on the Ohio Bobcats on Sunday at 4 p.m.

COACH RAFA SIMOES
- Head Coach Rafa Simoes is in year two leading Marshall's women's soccer program. The former associate with the Herd men's team is a 2018 graduate of the University of Charleston in West Virginia, where he played for then-head coach Chris Grassie.
- Simoes coached 19 newcomers in his first season leading Marshall's women's soccer team. He earned his first win as a head coach on Sept. 1, 2024 in a 1-0 victory over Belmont.
PRE-MATCH NOTES
- The Herd is 2-0, outscoring its opponents, 9-0 in the two victories. MU went unbeaten in its first six contests to start the 2023 season.
- Sophomore Fernanda Dantas has three assists in the two contests including a pair in the team's Wednesday night victory over Glenville State. The Salvador, Brazil native also scored her first goal with the Thundering Herd in the 6-0 shutout.
- The Herd defense has allowed just two shots on target to begin the season in aid of sophomore goalkeeper Emma Durand. Senior defender Kajsa Ekstrom is the lone field player to be in all 180 minutes so far in the season. The Umea, Sweden native scored her first goal of the year off a set piece Wednesday.
ABOUT THE BOBCATS
- Ohio enters Sunday 1-2, coming off consecutive 1-0 losses to Clemson and Pitt.
- Head Coach Aaron Rodgers is in his 13th season as head coach of OU. Coach Simoes was an assistant under Rodgers in Athens for a season before returning to the Herd.
- Marshall has met Ohio more than any other women's soccer program. MU is seeking its first win in Athens as the Bobcats hold a 14-4-2 series lead.
