Women’s Soccer Makes History With First Win at Ohio, 2-1

ATHENS, Ohio – Marshall (3-0-0) notched its first-ever win in Athens with a 2-1 victory over Ohio on Sunday, making program history and marking its best start to a season in 16 years.
The Herd seized control early, striking twice in the opening 10 minutes. Geovanna Souza opened the scoring in the fourth minute, finishing low to the right corner after a combination from Marcella Alves and Brooklyn McComas.

Just minutes later, Souza set up Bailey Fisher for a clinical finish in the 10th minute. Fisher's strike to the top left corner doubled the lead and proved to be the eventual game-winner.

Despite trailing, Ohio fought back with sustained pressure, outshooting Marshall 16-11. The Bobcats pulled a goal back in the 78th minute through Sania Dearing, but Emma Durand came up big with a crucial save in the final minutes to secure the victory.
The match was a physical battle, featuring 23 fouls and six yellow cards. Marshall's efficiency proved decisive, converting two of four shots on goal, while the defense held firm in the closing stages.

Souza finished with a goal and an assist, Fisher played the full 90 minutes and netted the winner, the seventh in her career, making her third all-time. Durand recorded two saves—including the late stop that made history for the Herd. The win snapped an 0-8-2 all-time record in Athens and delivered Marshall its first 3-0 start since 2009.
