Late ULM Goal Sinks Marshall Women in Monroe, 3-2

MONROE, La. – Marshall (4-3-1) dropped a 3-2 decision to ULM on Thursday after conceding the game-winning goal in the 86th minute at Brown Stadium in Louisiana.
The decisive moment came with just four minutes remaining, as a late header put ULM ahead for the first time, giving the hosts a 3-2 lead. The Herd had jumped out to a two-goal cushion thanks to a fast start, but ULM clawed back with two quick strikes late in the first half and carried the momentum through the second.
Marshall wasted no time establishing an advantage. In the fourth minute, Luiza Travassos finished off a pass from Kajsa Ekstrom to put the visitors in front. Just two minutes later, Bailey Fisher doubled the lead, finding the net after a setup from freshman Luana Gusmao. It marked the second time this season Marshall scored twice inside the opening 10 minutes, matching the fast start at Ohio on Aug. 24.

ULM cut the margin in the 38th minute and needed less than one minute to level, as Blaise scored to make it 2-2. The Herd's second half goalkeeper Emma Durand recorded three saves in relief of starter Alexis Wolgemuth to keep the contest even until the final moments.
Fisher led Marshall with four shots (three on goal), while Travassos added two attempts. The teams each had five corner kicks in a physical match that featured three yellow cards and 24 combined fouls. ULM finished with an 18-11 edge in shots.
The Herd was seeking its first conference win since Sept. 29 of last season and its first Sun Belt road victory since a 2023 contest at Troy.
