HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (3-6) fell in game two of its series against the Butler Bulldogs 7-2 on Saturday at Jack Cook Field.
Â
"Tough ballgame for us. I hate saying it, but we played uninspired from an offensive standpoint today and we didn't have good fastball bat speed on their pitching," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said.
Â
The Herd's pitching staff combined for 18 strikeouts, led by starting pitcher Drew Harlow's 13 in 6.0 innings of work.
Â
AJ Havrilla crossed the plate after reaching on a fielder's choice, and Tyler Kamerer drove him in for the first run of the game in the bottom of the first. However, Butler answered with a pair of runs in the top of second to go up 2-1.
Â
The Bulldogs added a trio of runs in the top of the fourth to take a 5-1 advantage.
Â
In the bottom of the sixth, Jackson Halter launched his third homer of the season to right.
Â
However, Butler tallied two insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning to hold off Marshall.
