HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Baseball team (13-10) fell 3-0 to No. 17 West Virginia on Tuesday night at Jack Cook Field in Huntington, West Virginia.
Â
"It was a really good college baseball game tonight. We really appreciate Herd Nation for coming out. It was a great crowd, great atmosphere here," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "Give their pitching staff credit. They pitched the ball really well and we struck out 12 times. I think we're better than that. I thought we competed really well, especially on the mound. We got great outings from Luke Proehl and Alex Caudill."
Â
Luke Proehl and Alex Caudill shutdown the Mountaineers out the bullpen. Proehl threw 2.2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out three. Caudill registered four punch outs across 4.0 hitless frames while allowing one walk.

Â
In the bottom of the seventh, Oliver Service extended his hitting streak to three games with a leadoff single to break up West Virginia's no-hit bid.
Â
MU drew five walks and was hit by pitch three times with Cleary Simpson drawing a pair of free passes.
