SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Marshall University Baseball team (23-31, 13-17 SBC) advanced to the 2026 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Saturday.

The Herd will start the Championship in a single-elimination game against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Tuesday in Montgomery, Alabama, at DABOS Park with a 4 p.m. EST/3 p.m. CST first pitch.

"We are excited to start a new season on Tuesday and the opportunity to play for a Sun Belt Conference Championship," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "These guys deserve the opportunity to keep playing together. We are in the tournament because of the games we won over the course of the season."

MU closed the regular season in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Texas State Bobcats in San Marcos, Texas, on Saturday.

Evan Bottone hit his eighth homer of the season during his 28th multi-hit effort in 2026. Jackson Halter also had a two-hit contest with his 11th homer of the season.

Starting pitcher Kenyon Collins struck out six across 6.0 frames giving up three runs on four hits and a walk.

Bottone started the game hot with a leadoff homer on the second pitch of the game before Halter hit a one-out blast to make it 2-0.

Marshall added two more runs in the top of the fourth with Bottone scoring off an error on a failed pickoff followed by Tyler Kamerer scoring on a Halter RBI double to go up 4-0.

The Bobcats cut the MU advantage in half, 4-2, with a two-run homer by Blake Behler in the bottom of the fifth. Texas State added another in bottom of the sixth on a Justin Vossos homer and tied the game, 4-4, with a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Vossos ended the game with a walk-off home run, his second of the contest, in the bottom of the 10th.
