HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Volleyball team (2-1) dropped its final contest of the Marshall Invitational (27-25, 25-16, 25-17) on Saturday in the Cam Henderson Center to the Ohio Bobcats.

"What an awesome opportunity to host opening weekend, especially for our seniors and this amazing Huntington community," Herd Volleyball Head Coach Heather Stout. "Super grateful to have such a strong support staff who made this possible. Being able to compete at home gives our team the chance to represent our university while building excitement and creating a strong connection with our fans. We're grateful for the community's support and hope this weekend helped grow our fan base and create even more buy-in moving forward."

Emma Barnett led the Herd with 10 kills. Kehea Carvalho registered 15 assists with Maddie Smith and Emma Sayre picking up 10 digs.

The first set was back and forth seeing the score tied 10 times and six lead changes between the two sides. With the set tied 18-18, Ohio and Marshall traded points until the visitors captured the final two to see MU at a 1-0 disadvantage.

The second set started much like the first as the teams were tied 11-11 through the first 22 points. However, the Bobcats took 14 of the final 19 points to take the second frame 25-16.

The Ohio offense hit .500 with 18 kills on 30 attacks with three errors as Marshall couldn't force a fourth set falling 25-17.

"From the weekend, I felt like yesterday we were balanced across the stat line, with multiple players stepping up and showcasing our depth," Stout said. "Today, we were battle-tested, and it revealed areas we need to clean up during the preseason. It's still early, and I'm excited to cut up this film and learn from this then get back to work on Monday as we prepare for a competitive weekend at IU Indy."
