2013: A true workhorse behind the dish, made 48 appearances (45 starts) all as the Marshall backstop...batted .228 with five doubles and a homer...had eight multihit games, including three-hit performances against North Carolina A&T (2/24) and UCF (4/19)...hit a home run, scored twice, and drove in three runs at Wofford (3/2)...stole his only base of the season at UCF (4/19).
2012: Red-shirted, did not play.
Prior to Marshall: Attended Shelton State Community College and Cleveland State University...compiled a .343 average (61-for-178) in two seasons at Shelton State CC...state champs freshman year...played in the JUCO World Series and was named player of the game in game one.
High School: Played ball at New Castle High School...batted .519 for his career, going 33-60 (.550) in his senior season...career included 27 doubles, one triple, and 11 home runs...batted in 86 runs...won All-Section honor at third base (sophomore year) and at catcher (junior and senior years)...Lawrence Country Player of the Year and All-WPIAL Team Class AAA senior season.
Personal: Born on March 31, 1990...son of Mark and Kathy Kirkwood...has an older brother, Mark Jr....majoring in business management.
