Adria Crawford
Adria Crawford enters her third season as assistant coach for the Marshall women’s basketball team after being hired in August on 2018 and works with the Herd's post players. She was also named Recruiting Coordinator in August of 2019 and helped Marshall bring in a 2019 recruiting class that is ranked in the top 60 nationally.

In Crawford’s first season with the Herd, she helped lead the team to an 8-win turnaround – and a 7-win improvement in Conference USA play – in 2018-19. Marshall was predicted to finish 13th in the C-USA preseason polls and instead won 17 games including 10 league contests and secured the No. 6 seed for the conference tournament. The 10 conference wins were the most for Marshall in Conference USA action in program history. The Herd earned a postseason bid to the WBI, just the fourth postseason berth in program history. Marshall’s first round win over Davidson was its first postseason victory since an 81-79 win over Northern Kentucky in the 2015 WBI.

In 2018-19, Marshall not only improved in the win column but in every aspect of the game. The Herd improved to fifth in the conference in points per game (67.3), second in 3-point field goals made per game (8.4) and led the league in 3-pointers made per game in league play (8.9). The defense saw a marked improvement as well with Crawford on staff going from 13th in the conference in field goal percentage allowed in 2017-18 to fifth in 2018-19. Other achievements for the Herd in the 18-19 season included a win over Charlotte for the first time in 10 matchups and the program’s first ever victory over Middle Tennessee. Four players for the Herd finished with 10 or more blocks for the season and were led by post player Khadaijia Brooks with 29. Brooks also led the team in rebounds with 6.1 per game (196). The 2019-20 season will see the return of forward Ashley Saintigene, who already ranks ninth all-time in program history with 81 blocks, from injury.

Crawford came to Huntington after four years on staff at College of Charleston where she focused on developing the team's post and wing players, three of which graduated and played professionally overseas. She was also very instrumental in handling the day-to-day operations of the program's academic and compliance efforts and directed the team's offseason camp, in addition to coordinating Charleston's film exchange.

Before Charleston, she was on the staff at Longwood, where she was involved in all aspects of the Lancers' program, including both on- and off-campus recruiting, opponent scouting and game-plan preparation. She also assisted with the coordination of team travel, player skill development, and practice preparation.

"I am truly excited for this opportunity at Marshall," Crawford said. "Coach Kemper is a fantastic person and I am confident he is moving the program in the right direction. The atmosphere at Marshall is unmatched and I cannot wait to fully experience all of the pride this community and campus holds."

Prior to her time with the Lancers, Crawford was a four-year member of the women's basketball team at Georgetown University where the Hoyas reached three NCAA Tournaments, including an appearance in the 2011 Sweet Sixteen.

While on The Hilltop, Crawford helped lead the Hoyas to a 23-9 overall mark in 2011-12, capping off an incredible performance for the winningest class (96 wins) in program history. Crawford started 19 of 31 games her senior season, while earning BIG EAST All-Academic honors. She finished her storied career second all-time at Georgetown with 131 games played and in the top 15 in career rebounds (646), blocked shots (61) and steals (174). She earned the school's Abigail Dillon Mullan Scholar-Athlete Award two times (2011, 2012) along with the Joe Lonardo Rebounding Award (2012) and the Laura 'Farina' Hustle Award (2009).

Crawford was also named a WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) Thirty Under 30 honoree in 2018.

"We are thrilled to add Adria Crawford to our women's basketball family," said Kemper. "She possesses tremendous energy for our game and that will be infectious for our student-athletes. Her playing career at Georgetown and recruiting ties along the east coast will be a tremendous asset to what we are building here at Marshall."

A native of Alexandria, Va., Crawford earned Bachelor of Art degrees in sociology and theology from Georgetown in 2012.
