DAYTON, Ohio ? Marshall was unable to once again pull out a come from behind victory on Sunday versus Wright State at Nischwitz Stadium, losing to the Raiders 10-0.
The Thundering Herd (5-10-1) struggled offensively, recording only four hits in the game and stranding four base runners.
Wright State starting pitcher Aaron Braden (1-2) worked six innings and surrendered only two hits and no runs.
Rick Suter (St. Clairsville, Ohio) started on the mound for Marshall, but his day ended in the fourth inning when he walked the bases loaded and subsequently gave up three runs. Two of the runs scored when Chris Tuttle belted a triple, the first of two on the day for the Wright State senior, to give the Raiders a 5-0 lead.
Mike Marchyshyn (Markham, Ont.) relieved Suter (0-3), but did not face a hitter in the inning, as the Thundering Herd managed to pick off Tuttle at third base to end the frame and minimize the damage.
Marshall yielded two runs in the first inning due in part to a Suter throwing error while attempting to pick off Tuttle who was en route to third base. Kofi Gyimah then scored on a Trent Matthews ground out to the second baseman Roddy Stieger (Westchester, Ohio).
Suter ran into trouble in the third inning when he walked the lead off batter and gave up a single to left field. The senior battled back by striking out the next three Raiders to end the inning with no runs scored.
Marchyshyn pitched 2.2 innings of relief and gave up only one hit while striking out one Raider.
Tuttle?s second triple of the game, down the right field line with the bases loaded in the eighth inning, gave the Raiders a 10-0 lead. The WSU center fielder was 4-for-5 on the day with five RBIs.
Craig Dziedziejko (Kitchener, Ont.) hit his first career triple in the top of the first inning, but with two outs, he was stranded and did not score.
J.P. Jung relieved Braden and pitched the remainder of the game to register his first save of 2003.
Marshall?s next contest is Tuesday at the University of Kentucky. UK upended the Herd 9-6 on Feb. 28, as part of the UAB Tournament.
