MOBILE, Ala. – The Marshall University Baseball team (18-18, 9-7 SBC) earned a series-opening 6-2 win behind a complete game from Bryce Blevins, fourth of his career, at South Alabama (22-16, 8-8 SBC) on Friday night in Mobile, Alabama.

"We played a very tough brand of baseball again tonight, and it starts on the mound and Bryce was superb tonight," Herd Baseball Head Coach Greg Beals said. "We made plays on defense and gave really good at bats for the most part.

Blevins allowed just two runs on six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts across his 9.0 innings of work for his seventh win of the season. The senior lefty's win marked the 19th of his career, tied for second-most in program history, while reaching 273.0 innings on the bump and 209 strikeouts in his career that sit fourth and sixth, respectively, in program history.

At the plate, Bottone registered his 18th multi-hit game with a 3-for-4 night, including a pair of doubles. Cooper Hinson, Tyler Kamerer, Jackson Halter and Jack Smith also registered multi-hit games with Hinson also driving in a pair of RBI.

MU struck first in the top of the second with Halter scoring on a Jackson Golden sacrifice fly.

Then in the third, Bottone was hit by a pitch as Kamerer and Hinson followed with singles to load the bases. AJ Havrilla then drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0 as Bottone crossed home. Halter then chased home Kamerer with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.

The Jaguars tallied a pair in the bottom of third. However, the Herd answered immediately in the fourth with Botton and Kamere scoring on a Hinson double, making it 5-2.

Bottone added an insurance run for Marshall in the top of the eighth plating Smith on a double and making it 6-2.
