HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall baseball team wrapped up its Green and White Series Oct. 7 with the White Team sweeping the best-of-three series, winning the first two games by scores of 5-3 and 7-1 at University Heights Field. The series concluded the first fall baseball season under the new coaching staff, led by head coach Jeff Waggoner.

Matt Helm (Sr., Downington, Pa.) earned Series Most Valuable Player honors after reaching base in six of his nine at bats while also stealing three bases. Jimmy Mathias (Sr., Stephens City, Va.) had four runs batted in over the weekend, while newcomer Jeff Rowley had three hits, three RBI and also stole home.

There also was some solid pitching during the series, led by Alan Gentry (Sr., Hot Springs, Ark.), who tossed three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits to earn the win in game one. Andrew Hancock (Jr., Ashland, Ky.) threw two innings while striking out four and Andrew Blain (So., Huntington, W.Va.) fanned three in 1 2/3 innings.

Marshall now looks forward to the 2007 regular season. The Herd opens play Feb. 16-18 at Charleston Southern.
