Mathias is in his first season with the Herd as a volunteer coach. The Stephens City, Va., native earned his Bachelor[apos]s in Secondary Education and Physical Education at Marshall University in 2008. He is a health teacher at Wayne Middle School in Wayne, W.Va.

Mathias played baseball at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., from 2003-2005 before transferring to Marshall in 2005.
