HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall University volleyball team dropped its first home match of the season to the Tulane Green Wave, 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 15-25) in a Conference USA match on Friday night at the Cam Henderson Center.

The loss drops the Herd to 16-5 overall and 4-3 in C-USA play, while the Green Wave now stands at 11-6, 6-2 C-USA.

"We are better than the way be played tonight," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "There were so many good things we did in games one and two to put ourselves in a position to have a chance to win, but we did not come through tonight."

In the opening frame of the evening, Tulane held control of the court pushing its lead to 9-3 after a kill from Visnja Djurdjevic, forced the Herd into a timeout. MU clawed its way back in the set, cutting the deficit to five (20-15) on a kill from Elizabeth Herman, and later to three points (24-21), but the surge was too late as the Green Wave won, 25-21.

In the second set, again Tulane held the tempo of the match, owning a 7-4 advantage and forcing Jacobs into an early MU timeout. The stoppage of play proved to be important as the Herd stayed within striking distance the remainder of the set.

MU was able to tie the score at 20-all, and would knot the score three more times, bringing the game tally to 23-all after Abby Tomas registered a kill for the Herd. Unfortunately for MU, the Green Wave's Ksenija Vlaskovic connected for back-to-back kills to take the second frame, 25-23.

After five ties in the early going of the third set, Tulane utilized a 7-0 run, which caused two MU timeouts. The Herd shrunk the lead to five points, 15-10, but could not get any closer and the Green Wave coasted to a 25-15 victory.

"Tulane just had their way with us in game three," Jacobs said. "We need to toughen up and start playing better."

Emily Sullivan was a bright spot for the Herd offense, tallying a double-double with 12 kill and 10 digs. It marked her first double-double of the season and the 10 digs were a season-high.

Ryanne Milligan added 10 digs and seven assists, while classmate Katy Schad chipped in with nine digs.

Tulane received a match-high 15 kills from Djurdjevic, while Marija Milosavljevic added 11 kills of her own. Rachel Lindelow recorded a double-double with a match-best 39 assists and 11 digs.

"We need to get ready for UTEP," Jacobs said. "We look at our rotations and see what kind of adjustments we have to make and try to execute them."

MU hosts UTEP on Sunday at 1 p.m. inside the Cam Henderson Center. MU pink game jerseys will be available to bid on at the game to support breast cancer research as part of Dig Pink Weekend.
