Track and Field Completes Thundering Herd Invitational

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The Marshall Track and field team completed the Marshall Invitational Saturday at Jeff Small Track at Chris Cline Athletic Complex. The Herd finished sixth overall at the meet.
Herd freshman Elisabeth Paulina broke the school record in the 400-meter dash, with a time of 55.78, which eclipsed the previous mark held by Yvonne Ferguson from 2004.
Paulina was the first runner in the women's 4x400 relay that placed first as well, along with sophomore Breanna Hargrove, senior Shyra Molton and senior Shanice Johnson. The quartet finished with a time of 3:49.61.
Senior Asia Bange placed second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.60). Junior Hope Julmiste finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.68). Sophomore Naja Greer also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash (25.04).
In field events, freshman Elena Marchand finished fourth in the shot put, with a distance of 13.93 meters. Herd freshman Lauren George finished 21st (5.04m), while senior Karena Folks finished right behind in 22nd (5.0m). Marshall's Caitlyn Owings finished 23rd in the high jump (1.50m). Sophomore Danielle Wright was the best Herd finisher in the triple jump (10.38m).
"I was very impressed by our freshman shot putters," Marshall coach Jeff Small said. "Elisabeth (Paulina's) record in the 400, that was awesome. That record had been here for a long time. Our sprints and hurdles also did well. The 4x400 there at the end was very exciting too."
