Morehead, Ky.-The Marshall men's and women's cross country teams competed in their first meet of the 2016 season at the Morehead State Eagle Opener on Friday. As a team, the women finished second and the men finished third.
Leading the way for the women was sophomore Adriana Cook, who finished in second place overall with a time of 18:48.90. Rounding out the top five for the Herd was senior Andrea Porter (11th-19:57.60), freshman Mikaela Mitchell (13th-20:06.20), junior Barkley Castro (16th-20:20.00), and freshman Mary Kerby (20th-20:34.20).
For the men, sophomore Daniel Green led the team with a ninth place finish and a time of 16:04.20, closely followed by freshman Alex Minor in 10th (16:04.40). Rounding out the top five for Marshall was senior William Shaffer (11th-16:05.20), sophomore Nick Schmidt (15th-16:18.40), and junior Tony Hayes (19th-16:28.80).

Assistant Coach Caleb Bowen's Reaction:
"I think everybody did a great job today. It was a really tough course with lots of bad footing. Overall, both the men and women did a great job. The freshmen in their first collegiate races all did a good job. If we continue to work hard like we have been we'll continue to improve and become better runners."
