Volleyball Heads to Southern Miss for Conference USA Road Match

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Marshall volleyball hits the road for a Conference USA match at the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. First serve is set for Friday at 7 p.m. eastern.

The Thundering Herd enters the match at 10-13 overall and 3-6 in conference play. The Golden Eagles come in at 12-12 for the year and 4-5 in conference action.

Marshall is coming off a four-set loss to UTSA in the Cam Henderson Center on Sunday. Redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell continues to lead the team on the offensive side with 361 kills, an average of 4.40 kills per set. Seniors Lauren Mattmuller (150) and Shelby Conley (146) are second and third on the team in kills, respectively. Freshman setter Gabrielle Coulter has started her Herd career with 777 assists, an average of nearly ten per set.

On the defensive side, junior libero Amber Weber is the leader of the Herd with 459 digs and always directing her teammates. Weber has recorded 20 or more digs in 13 matches this season and is averaging 5.28 per set. Freshman Sarah Schank is next with 206 digs. Debell has 12 solo blocks and freshman Isa Dostall is next with nine. Dostal has assisted on 39 blocks as well.

Southern Miss is coming off a four-set win over Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday. The last C-USA match for the Golden Eagles was a five-set loss at FIU on Sunday (Oct. 21). Kylie Grandy leads Southern Miss with 407 kills, an average of 4.33 per set. Sarah Bell has recorded 1,009 assists and is second with 298 digs. Madison Lawler leads with 321 digs. Defensively, the Golden Eagles have recorded 222 total blocks.

Following the Friday night match, Marshall travels to Denton, Texas, to take on North Texas. The match is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. eastern.
