Volleyball Hosts Florida Atlantic in Friday Match

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall volleyball team hosts the Florida Atlantic Owls, Friday at 6 p.m., in the Cam Henderson Center.
 
The Thundering Herd comes in at 10-15 overall and 3-8 in Conference USA. The Owls enter at 18-5 overall and 8-2 in conference action.
 
Marshall returns to the Cam after the past two matches on the road. The Herd fell in four sets at Southern Miss (Oct. 26) and in three sets at North Texas (Oct. 28). Redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell continues to be the offensive leader with 389 kills, an average of 4.37 per set. Seniors Lauren Mattmuller and Shelby Conley are both tied for second on the team with 158 kills. Freshman setter Gabrielle Coulter leads with 851 assists.
 
On the defensive side, junior libero Amber Weber is nearing 500 digs (495) in her first full season in the roll with Marshall. Weber shared the position in 2017, her first year with the Herd after transferring from South Florida. Freshman Isa Dostall leads in blocks with 52 total including 10 solo blocks.
 
The Owls have won its last three matches with victories over Southern Miss (3-1), Charlotte (3-2) and FIU (3-1) all at home. FAU currently sits in second place in the conference standings behind the Rice Owls (10-0 in C-USA). The offensive attack is led by Massiel Matos (305 kills) and Sigourney Kame (259 kills). Abbi Reid is third on the team with 199 kills. Setter Ivone Martinez leads the squad with 1,020 assists, an average of 12.59 per set.
 
On defense, Alex Cardona leads the team in digs with 309. Martinez is next with 207. Cailea Gibbs leads the Owls in blocks with 68 total including 18 solo.
 
Following the match with FAU, Marshall stays home for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 1 p.m., against the FIU Panthers. The Herd will honor its senior class of Mattmuller, Conley and Jayden Jacobs prior to the match.
