BOWLING GREEN, OHIO – Following its four-set victory against Georgia Tech last week, the Marshall volleyball team returns to the court Thursday night to take on Bowling Green. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
It is the fourth early season tournament for the Herd before opening up in Conference USA action. Marshall enters the match at 5-6.
"It's always tough to spend so much time on the road," head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "But, I feel like our team is starting to get into the groove of things. This will be a great test for us to play three matches in three days. But it will be a great experience for our young players to mentally prepare for that as that's the same format at the C-USA championships."
Fans looking to watch the action, all three of Marshall's matches will be streamed live on YouTube.
Marshall wrapped up its trip to Tuscaloosa with a win last Saturday, handing Georgia Tech just the second loss of the year. Freshman Gabrielle Coulter was named to the Bama Bash Invitational all-tournament team. Coulter contributed 107 assists, 11 kills and 26 digs during the tournament. In the victory over the Yellow Jackets the freshman recorded 42 assists, seven kills and 13 digs.
Host program Bowling Green enters the Stroh Center 3-7 overall and fresh off a 3-2 win over Cleveland State to cap off the Cleveland State Tournament.
Senior outside hitter Isabel Kovacic enters the match as the team leader in kills with 82. She's also fourth on the Falcons with a .158 hitting percentage on 272 total attacks. Junior setter Isabelle Marciniak paces BGSU with 302 total assists.
Following the match against the Falcons, Marshall will play Nicholls State at 4 p.m. on Friday, and IUPUI at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Herd will then finally return to the Cam Henderson Center, after six-straight on the road, on Sept. 21 with the C-USA opener against the Charlotte 49ers.
Thursday will mark the 15th all-time meeting between the two former conference foes. The Falcons hold the series edge, 8-6, but the Herd won the previous meeting in 2016, 4-1, and are winners of the last five-straight tilts.
