MIAMI, Fla. – The Marshall volleyball team is back on the road to take on the FIU Panthers. First serve in the Conference USA match is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Thundering Herd is 7-8 and 0-1 in C-USA action. The Panthers enter the match with a record of 8-5 and 1-0 in conference. The match will be broadcast on CUSAtv.

"Long travel day after a tough match last night," Herd head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "We will get as much rest as possible and see what we can do tomorrow. FIU is coming off a couple really nice wins, including Friday night, their home conference-opener so I'm sure they are confidant and excited to get us on the back end of a split weekend for us."

Marshall is coming off a tough, five-set loss at home to Charlotte. The Herd took the first two sets before the 49ers battled back and won the last three. Prior to the loss to Charlotte, Marshall had won three of its previous four matches.

Redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell leads Marshall with 226 kills. Freshman Joelle Coulter is next with 110 and senior Shelby Conley is just behind with 98. Freshman Gabrielle Coulter, the reigning C-USA Freshman of the Week, has recorded 502 assists through 14 matches. Junior Amber Weber, honored as the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, leads Marshall with 297 digs. Freshman Isa Dostal leads in blocks with six solo and shared in 30 more, and is averaging .84 blocks per set.

After losing two-straight to Army and No. 11 Florida, the FIU Panthers defeated Jacksonville in five sets and then swept UAB to begin Conference USA play. The Panthers gradually wore down the Blazers and took the third set 25-16. FIU has a balanced attack with Margherita Bianchin (167 kills) and Nina Petranovic (125 kills) leading the way. Setter Abbie Hughes has 417 assists and is third on the team with 109 digs. Lina Bernier leads in digs with 249. Chelsea Hudson is averaging one block per set this season, has 10 solo and has shared in 35 more.

The contest in Miami is the first of a three-match road swing for Marshall. Following Sunday's match, the Herd will play at UAB on Sept. 28 and at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 30. Marshall returns to the Cam Henderson Center on Friday, Oct. 5 against WKU.
