BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Marshall volleyball team fell in three sets at UAB (18-25, 18-25, 18-25) Friday night at the Bartow Arena.

The Thundering Herd falls to 7-10 overall and 0-3 in Conference USA. The Blazers improve to 9-8 and 1-2 in conference action.

"UAB was lights out tonight in the serve and pass game," Herd head coach Mitch Jacobs said. "That allowed them to run their middles down our throat. I thought we played hard, we were just outplayed and out executed."

Junior Amber Weber led the Herd with 14 digs. Freshman Gabrielle Coulter recorded 19 assists. Senior Shelby Conley led with nine kills. Junior Ivana Trencheva had eight kills while redshirt sophomore Ciara Debell had six.

Marshall took an early lead in a back-and-forth first set. There were three lead changes and the score was tied 10 times until UAB took the lead for good at 15-14 and pulled away for the win.

The Blazers jumped out to quick leads in the second and third sets in taking the sweep.

Marshall continues its weekend on the road as the Herd heads next to Ruston, La., to take on Louisiana Tech on Sunday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. eastern.
